Ascendent Receives Contract to Support Bechtel-SAIC for Yucca Mountain

On September 19, 2008, Ascendent, LLC was awarded a 3-year contract to provide technical services to Bechtel-SAIC (BSC), the prime contractor to DOE for the design and licensing of the Yucca Mountain Project. BSC celebrated a major milestone in June 2008 when DOE submitted its license application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The license application was later accepted and docketed by the NRC. The NRC review is expected to take four years to complete. Ascendent, LLC will provide support in areas of structural engineering, stress analysis, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, radiological engineering, finite element analysis, civil engineering, HVAC engineering and HVAC design.

 


Ascendent Receives Contract to Support Hanford PRC

On April 25, 2008, Ascendent, LLC was awarded a 10-year, (5-year base-period with 5-year option) Shared Resource Agreement to provide technical and management services to CH2MHILL Plateau Remediation Company (CH-PRC), the prime contractor to DOE for the cleanup of the central portion of the Hanford site (Central Plateau). The scope of the PRC contract includes completion of the Plutonium Finishing Plant project; characterization of facilities and waste sites; disposal activities related to non-tank farm waste; environmental surveillance and maintenance; groundwater monitoring and remediation; environmental remediation; and development of documents for regulatory and other decisions covering groundwater, soil, and facilities. The 90-day transition period to the new contractor began on August 1, 2008. Ascendent is also providing resources for transition. The PRC is the second of three major contracts for cleanup at the Hanford Site in 2008 as part of the Central Plateau acquisition strategy. The 586-square-mile Hanford Site in Southeastern Washington State played a pivotal role in the nation’s defense for more than 40 years, beginning in the 1940s with the Manhattan Project. Formerly a plutonium production complex with nine nuclear reactors and associated processing facilities, Hanford is today engaged in the world’s largest environmental cleanup project. Ascendent Receives U.S. Small Business Administration Award

Ascendent, LLC has been providing Administrative, Engineering, Professional, and Technical Support Services and Nuclear and Criticality Safety Analysis Support to CH2M WG Idaho, LLC (CWI) for the Idaho Cleanup Project since June 2006. Ascendent, LLC’s outstanding performance on this project resulted in being nominated for the Small Business of the Year Award. On April 23, 2007, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) presented Ascendent, LLC with the Administrators Award for Excellence in recognition of “…outstanding contribution and service to the nation by a small business in satisfying the needs of the Federal procurement system”.
